Three men were shot and killed at Great Lakes Dragaway Sunday August 13, 2017 about 7:00 p.m. while more than 5,000 people were at the raceway/dragstrip for an event billed as “Larry’s Fun Fest.”

Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth said authorities responded about 7:00 p.m. to a report of shots fired the Great Lakes Dragaway, 18411 1st Street (County Highway KR) Union Grove, Wisconsin.

The three men were shot by another man at point-blank range near a food vendor, Sheriff Beth said at a news conference Sunday night. No suspects were arrested and no one else was injured.

A police radio alert announced a suspect described as a male/black in his 20s, 5’11” to 6’2″ … 150 to 160 LBS, wearing a blue T-shirt, a black hoodie black. The suspect’s vehicle was described as a black vehicle — possibly a Chevy. The weapon used was described as possibly a handgun.

Two male shooting victims died at the scene, and the third male shooting victim died during transportation to a hospital. Beth said at least two of the men were from Aurora, Illinois.

An EMS Box Alarm (Life Safety Box) was activated to the third level — mostly likely for the possibility of additional patients with secondary issues from the evacuation. There were several crashes reported after the shooting — one on the dragstrip, and others on the roads providing access to and from Great Lakes Dragaway.

“They have no idea what happened, what caused this,” the Sheriff Beth said — based on information gained from interviews with friends of the victims.

The Great Lakes Dragaway website on Sunday showed the “Larry’s Fun Fest” event included drag racing, tailgating, live entertainment, DJs, a bouncy house and a car show — billed as the largest single day drag racing event in Wisconsin.
