A 27-year-old motorcycle rider in Fox Lake near Spring Grove has died from his injuries after crashing into the driver’s side of a sedan on State Park Road near Grass Lake Road Tuesday.
Fox Lake police report the man riding a Yamaha motorcycle about 4:30 p.m. was traveling north on State Park Road, but crossed the center land into the southbound lane passing other vehicles. A Chevrolet 4-door sedan was northbound in the process of a left turn onto Kohl Avenue when the motorcycle hit the driver’s side of the sedan, police said. Initially the cash was reported at Grass Lake Road, but the crash was closer to Kohl Avenue, less than 500 feet south of Grass Lake Road.
The motorcycle ended up off road, and the sedan involved in the collision had moderate damage on the driver’s side of the vehicle — especially the rear driver’s side door.
The McHenry County coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy and toxicology tests. The man’s name is not being released pending notification of relatives.
The Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County was called in to assist in the investigation.

Flight for Life was requested by Grayslake Battalion Chief 22, and the helicopter landing zone (LZ) was designated at the Liquor Hole property on State Park Road north of Grass Lake Road.
The man was transported by Spring Grove ambulance to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, where he died, according to police. Initially, Spring Grove Ambulance 352 was en route to the Landing Zone with a patient on board by 4:50 p.m. as the Flight for Life helicopter was flying toward the landing zone.
The Flight for Life helicopter reported a 4:57 p.m. ETA to the LZ, but Ambulance 352’s crew reported they were diverting transport to Centegra Hospital when the male patient’s condition worsened on board the ambulance.
The crash is under investigation. Initially, there was a witness report that the motorcyclist was attempting to pass a 4-door sedan in front of him on Grass Lake Road, when he struck the driver-side rear door of the car.
