The Arlington Heights Police Department alerted people today on their Facebook page that Snapchat recently introduced a new tracker that allows people to track the exact location of friends under certain settings.

If your children use Snapchat, please check to ensure they have their location set to Ghost mode, that way no one can see where they are.

To do this make sure app is the updated version and go to selfie mode on the camera. Then zoom out. It will give you the option of changing to who can see your location.

In Snapchat’s most current update, the tracker allows a user to view the exact location of friends, giving the area, village or city, and street. At closest zoom levels, the view shows a street view of the friend’s residence on the street layout.

Arlington Heights police recommend people share this notification about the new tracker feature, especially since Snapchat has a lot of young users on it.
