Two Chicago Police Officers Shot on 43rd Street Near Ashland Ave, Chicago

CBS 2 Chicago: Two Chicago police officers were ambushed and shot near 43rd Street and Ashland Avenue in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

UPDATE: Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson told reporters at Stroger Hospital that two plainclothes officers working in a tactical unit in the 9th district during a follow-up investigation for a previous incident were shot. Two vehicles pulled up alongside the tactical unit and began firing indiscriminately at about 9:10 p.m. on 43rd Street near Ashland Avenue. The officers returned fire, but it is not believed that the offenders were struck.

An extensive manhunt has been ongoing overnight since 9:10 p.m. Tuesday. Three persons of interest are being questioned.

Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:10 PM Tuesday to a report of two police officers shot at 43rd Street and Ashland Avenue Chicago, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that two police officers were shot on 43rd Street east of Ashland Avenue.

Suspect vehicles are possibly a silver Dodge or Chrysler or Plymouth minivan and a tan Chevy Trailblazer — partial plate R24. R24 partial plate is on the Chevy Trailblazer.

A gray Ford Silverado was the original victim’s car involved in a crash.

Ashland Avenue is shut down for emergency transport of police officers.

Ambulances were transporting officers between 9:25 p.m. and 9:35 p.m. to Level I Trauma Center Cook County Stroger.

Town & Country Minivan possibly found with two bullet holes in the rear 38th Street and Racine — just east of Racine. Possibly no suspects near the minivan, which is reported stolen.

K-9 search and helicopter search underway. Heavy police activity in the area. All available police are responding to the area.

All offenders are reported armed with rifles. K-9 found a rifle by 9:51 p.m. at 1051 37th Street. Suspects are believed to be male/Hispanic.

Ammo and magazine recovered.
