One-Vehicle Car vs Tree Crash Critically Injures Driver on Route 45 Near Edwards Rd, Unincorporated Antioch

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Antioch firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:20 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2017 to a report of a crash with injuries on Route 45 near Edwards Road, unincorporated Antioch. Route 45 is a two-lane road in this area.

The Kia left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver was extricated from the Kia and transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville via flight for Life helicopter. At Condell the patient was listed in critical condition.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a 2010 Kia Forte with extensive damage. Preliminary investigation indicates the Kia was traveling southbound on Route 45, being driven by a 58 year-old man of Wildwood. There were no passengers in his vehicle. Witnesses reported the driver of the Kia was attempting to pass other vehicles when he lost control.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit is investigating the crash, and had closed Route 45 for an extended time. The vehicle was reported to have flipped and then was upright after it hit the tree.
