Infant Girl Killed, 2 Children Seriously Injured in Rollover Crash at Route 25 and Silverstone Dr, Barrington Hills

Carpentersville firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:52 p.m. to a report of a rollover crash with a fire at Route 25 (Elgin Road) and Silverstone Drive. A 5-month-old female infant died and two other children were seriously injured following a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday evening in Barrington Hills, authorities said.

Multiple people called 9-1-1 with at least one call reporting that citizens on the scene were possibly utilizing rescue CPR techniques on an infant.

Barrington Hills police also responded to the crash, which involved five vehicles at Route 25 and Silverstone Drive. Carpentersville Engine 92’s crew on arrival reported a vehicle on its roof with the vehicle on fire. the crew also requested four or five additional ambulances to be dispatched to the scene. Initial EMS assessment report included three patients classified CODE RED at the scene. The incident response was elevated to an EMS Box Alarm by 6:59 p.m.

A female infant, who was a passenger in a 2010 Dodge Journey, was transported to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where she was pronounced dead. Also in the 2010 Dodge Journey were two other children, ages 8 and 13, who were transported to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates with serious injuries. The female driver of the Dodge Journey was transported to Sherman Hospital with injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening, police said.

Investigators determined that a 2010 Dodge Journey, driven by a 32-year-old Carpentersville woman, who was with the infant and two children, initially collided with a 2001 Ford pickup, driven by a 23-year-old man from Carpentersville.

The initial crash near the T-crossing intersection of Route 25 (Elgin Road) and Silverstone Drive caused a second three-vehicle crash, involving a 2002 Nissan SUV driven by a 24-year-old Carpentersville man, a 2000 GMC pickup driven by a 59-year-old Carpentersville man, and a 1993 Chevrolet pickup driven by another Carpentersville man, whose age was not released by police.

The driver of the 2001 Ford pickup truck, the 23-year-old man from Carpentersville, was transported to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin where he was treated and released.

The three drivers in the secondary crash were transported to local hospitals for minor injuries where they were treated and released, according to police.

Barrington Hills Police did not immediately provide additional details about the crash, saying it remains under investigation by Barrington Hills police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team. No information was available regarding whether any of the drivers were cited or arrested.
