Multiple Power Outages in Northwest Cook County from Lightning Strikes and High Winds

Today’s afternoon thunderstorm in the northwest suburbs in northwest Cook County didn’t rank severe enough to get a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from the National Weather Service, but they sure caused a lot problem with ComEd’s service. Several motorists were also stuck in flooded streets.

Arlington Heights firefighters responded to Sigwalt and Fernandez for a report of power lines, transformer or tree branches on fire at about 1:24 p.m.

Arlington Heights firefighters responded to a downed power line that was arcing near Rand Road and Stonebridge Apartments.

Palatine firefighters responded to a report that the first floor hallway at San Tropei Condominiums was flooded about 1:50 p.m.

Palatine firefighters responded about 1:46 p.m. to rescue a person where a car was stranded where a sewer was backing up at Smith and Colfax. Firefighters on arrival reported several cars stranded in the water.

Quint 83’s crew was on the scene for an arcing transformer at Rand Road and Williams Road at about 2:00 p.m. Witness told firefighters they saw lightning hit the power lines before the transformer started arcing.

A tree was also knocked down over on Rohlwing Road just south of Kenilworth in Palatine.

Power line fire was reported after a tree branch fell on the line at 561 East Baldwin.

Several other residents reported power lines with fires or arcing from fallen tree branches.

Schaumburg firefighters responded to National Parkway and Remington Road to a report of a BMW stuck in flooded streets with water coming up to the door about 1:24 p.m.

Elk Grove firefighters responded to a report of a lightning strike of a house at 60 Woodcrest Lane.

Elk Grove firefighters rescued a man at Grove 23 in Busse Woods after a man was fishing and was stranded on his electric scooter when the storm hit.
