Eden Prairie (Minnesota) police responded about 10:37 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 to a report of a domestic disturbance at 17190 Park Circle. Police found a 23-year-old woman, identified as Lyuba Savenok, with multiple stab wounds upon arrival. She was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The victim’s sister apparently was also threatened by the assailant, and a neighbor call 911 when she saw Lyuba’s distraught sister.

Police initially did not release the name of the victim — stating the case is an ongoing investigation in a news release. A family member released the identity of the victim.

A male suspect, believed to be the victim’s husband Yeveginy “Eugene” Savenok fled the scene at the couple’s home with the couple’s children. Eden Prairie police initiated a metrowide search. About 1 p.m. the victim’s husband, 30, turned himself in to the St. Paul Police Department. He was with the couple’s two children, ages 2 and 4. Yeveginy Savenok, is being held in the Hennepin County jail, charged with murder without bail. Official charges are expected today — the same day that Savenok was due in court to face charges of violating an order of protection for domestic abuse that Lyubov filed in Wheaton, Illinois in 2014. A settlement conference was also scheduled for today, Tuesday March 17, 2016.

Eden Prairie police said they were called to the house for a domestic disturbance at least one other time in the past year, and that Savenok was facing criminal charges as a result of that call. According to the victim’s brother, Lyuba was 26 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.

Yeveginy Savenok is a 2004 graduate of Wheaton Warrenville South High School and a 2008 graduate of Wheaton College. According to the Wheaton Thunder Athletics roster page on Savenok for the 2007-2008 season, he compiled a record of 18-15, took third place at the CCIW Tournament, second place at the MSOE Invitational, third place at the Spartan Mat Classic, and fourth place at the North Central Invite.

In the 2006-2007 season he finished third in conference meet. In the 2005-2006 season, Savenok earned the highest number of points for the Thunder. He was also named an All-American Wrestling Scholar

DUPAGE COUNTY, ILLINOIS ORDER OF PROTECTION INCIDENTS (FILED AUGUST 27, 2014)

Aug. 1, 2014: “Hit me during sex. I yelled, pushed him off and called the police. He broke a window out of rage.”

Aug. 10, 2014: “Wrestled and hit me repeatedly (45 min), left bruises and bloody nose.”

Aug. 25, 2014: “Pulled me up by the hair.”

Aug. 27, 2014: “With the increase of incidents and the severity of them, I’ve gotten his parents and my parents involved as well as our church. I overheard him talking to his dad on the phone yesterday, telling him that the only way this will end is me in the hospital or him in jail. He has taken freedoms away from me such as my phone and my forms of identification, as well as use of our cars to keep me feeling alone and helpless and scared. He doesn’t intend on stopping and I don’t know when to expect his next outlash and its very emotionally difficult to live under the pressure.”

A GoFundMe page produced for Lyuba Savenok at www.gofundme.com/lyubasavenok raised over $47,000 with 606 donations by Tuesday morning.

“We wish to honor Lyuba and her son and bury them in a beautiful place where she may be visited by friends and family. Lyuba’s greatest passion in life was to enrich her children’s lives. With your help her immediate family will care for Matthew and Vivienne and do everything in their power to set them up for success.”
