NIGHT SKY FOR APRIL 2016 …

Backyard stargazers get a monthly guide to the northern hemisphere’s skywatching events with “Tonight’s Sky.” In April, the sky is featured with Jupiter, Ursa Major, Leo, and Saturn and Mars after midnight, and the Lyrid meteor shower, which peaks Friday, April 2, 2016 (Musical track The Far River written by Jonn Serrie, from the album And the Stars Go With You courtesy of New World Music Ltd).

Ursa Major (the Great Bear) or The Big Dipper contains pointer star that point to the North Star (Polaris). The constellation is high in the sky most of the night in April 2016. In August and September 2016 Ursa Major is low in the sky just above the horizon.
