VIDEO: Navy Submarine USS Hartford Busts Through Arctic Ice

Watch the USS Hartford (SSN-768), a Los Angeles-class submarine (attack submarine) surface through the Arctic ice during a naval exercise.

The USS Hartford recently was captured on video during a naval exercise in the Arctic.

The submarine has been in two previous serious mishaps.

Rudders, sonar and other electronic equipment were severely damaged when the submarine ran aground near La Maddalena in Sardinia southwest of Italy in 2003.

The USS Hartford collided with with amphibious transport dock USS New Orleans (LPD-18) in the Strait of Hormuz, slightly injuring 15 sailors on board. The total repair cost for the submarine was $120 million. The USS Hartford returned to service in February, 2011
