One Killed in Crash Involving Nissan GT-R, Infinity Sedan, Light Pole at Higgins Rd and Huntington Blvd, Hoffman Estates

Hoffman Estates police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:19 PM Thursday to a report of crash with injuries at Huntington Boulevard and Higgins Road Hoffman Estates, IL. Police on the scene reported one person confirmed trapped in a car vs. light pole crash.

First fire crews on the scene reported heavy damage and a rapid extrication of two patients. Firefighters also requested a third ambulance immediately upon arrival. A fourth ambulance was requested at 8:27 p.m. with a Schaumburg ambulance assigned.

All patients were extricated by 8:28 p.m.

Roads were blocked past midnight in the area for an extended accident investigation.

At least two patients were transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. One of the patients transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital was pronounced dead after arrival at the hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office in Chicago.

Firefighter/paramedics performed rapid extrication, which is a procedure usually performed when a crash scene presents one or more of the following exists:

1) The scene is unsafe

2) An unstable patient with a condition that warrants immediate movement and transport

3) A patient blocks paramedics from accessing another, more serious, patient

A silver Infinity apparently crashed into a tall light pole after impact with a black Nissan GT-R. The Infinity was severely damaged, especially on the passenger side. The Nissan GT-R received moderate to minor damage. The Nissan appeared to have window stickers on the passenger’s side windshield that could have indicated the driver’s view to the right-front was impaired. It is unknown whether the stickers were a factor in the crash. It is also unknown at this time whether the vehicle was out for a test drive.

A Nissan GT-R is capable of accelerating 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds, and has a MSRP starting cost of about $101,000..
