UPDATE: All suspects in custody in the 1700 block of Ballard Road in an apartment complex just north of Lutheran General Hospital and north of Portillo’s by 1:55 p.m.

Illinois State Police, Homewood Police, Cook County Sheriff’s police and other agencies were in pursuit of armed robbery suspects Thursday afternoon. The chase began about 1:15 p.m. and headed northbound on I-57 and then I-294. One or more of the suspects were possibly also wanted for investigation of a homicide, vehicular hijacking, and fleeing and eluding (not confirmed).

Police spotted the suspects’ car near 183rd Street and Kedzie after a woman, who was robbed at a medical facility parking lot in the 3200 block of Vollmer Road Homewood, was able to call police and give a description of the suspects’ vehicle. The chase quickly moved to northbound I-57 and then northbound I-294.

During the police pursuit, the suspects were northbound on I-294 passing the Hinsdale Oasis at a speed reported to be 110 mph at about 1:25 p.m. Most of the police units pursuing the suspects backed off because of unsafe speeds. A Chicago police helicopter tracked the vehicle as it headed north.

The suspects exited near at Dempster after passing Touhy and were near Lutheran General Hospital about 1:40 p.m. The suspects may have parked their car near the Nessett Pavilion before they fled their vehicle on foot.

The suspects exited their vehicle, but headed back to their vehicle when they realized police caught up with them near Lutheran General Hospital.

Two or three suspects were in custody at gunpoint by 1:45 p.m.

Two male/black suspects were possibly at large in the area just to the north of Lutheran General Hospital. The suspects were believed to be armed and dangerous. The two suspects away from their vehicle were captured shortly after police located their vehicle. Initially there was some confusion regarding how many suspects bailed out of their car, and how many were immediately captured.

At about 1:55 p.m. police declared that all suspects were in custody. The number of total suspects in custody is four suspects.

Police also recovered a gun, and recovered the woman’s purse after it was tossed from the vehicle during the chase on I-294.
