Two Chicago Police Officers, Driver of Van that Sped Off Injured in Head-on Crash Belmont and Long

Chicago police were involved in a crash at Belmont Avenue and Long Ave on the city’s Northwest Side about 1:00 a.m. Sunday after police attempted to pull over a black van at the beginning of a traffic stop.

As police attempted to stop the van, the driver resisted and sped off, running a red light and hitting a police car head-on, according to police.

Two Chicago police officers were transported by Chicago Fire Department paramedics to local hospital(s) with non-life threatening injuries. The van’s 35-year-old driver was transported by Chicago Fire Department paramedics and hospitalized in critical condition.

ABC 7 Chicago News reported that a passenger in the van said the driver of the van was ejected through the windshield.
