VIDEO: Mexican Marines Raid ‘El Chapo’ Safe House; 5 Killed, Six Arrested

The Mexican government released video of a January 8th raid that led to the arrest of wanted drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman. Guzman was believed to have been hiding inside a gated and guarded home.

Five members of the notorious Sinaloa cartel were slain by marines and six were arrested before El Chapo was captured. El Chapo escaped through a sewer system with his right-hand henchman El Cholo Ivan.

Hours later El Chapo and El Cholo Ivan were both arrested at a nearby motel in the seaside town of Los Mochis. El Chapo was returned to the same maximum security prison, where he escaped six months ago.

Locals in Los Mochis said no one had been living in the gated, heavily guarded property until the night before the gun battle, when a black pickup truck arrived outside the two-story home. Recent activity during previous weeks was reported at the gated home, however; and a vast arsenal of weapons was seized that included loaded rocket launchers, rifles, semi-automatic weapons, grenades and armored vehicles.

One marine was hurt, but did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
