Bensenville Trustee Charged with Retail Theft After Leaving Store with Items on Lower Shelf of Shopping Cart at Villa Park Walmart

Bensenville village trustee Susan Janowiak is facing misdemeanor retail theft charges after she was accused of shoplifting at the Villa Park Wal-Mart in December 2015.

Janowiak is accused of going through the check-out process and paying for several items in the basket portion of her cart, while not paying for items in the lower portion of her cart before attempting to leave the store.

According to court records, Susan Janowiak, age 61, of the 1000 block of West Donna Lane in Bensenville, is accused of shoplifting gift bags, gift cards, jeans, wreaths and gift boxes, totaling less than $300, around 10:50 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015.

Janowiak, who also has served as village clerk, was also a lifeguard, pool manager, and president of the Bensenville Park District. She was released after posting $150 bail at the Villa Park Police Department.

Janowiak’s first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 13.
