Construction Crane Accident with Power Lines on Eastbound I-90 East of Route 53, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:26 AM Thursday to a report of construction accident involving a crane hitting power lines I-90 and Golf Road Rolling Meadows, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a construction crane hit a power line, but the address was incorrectly given as the I-90 bridge over Arlington Heights Road.

The crane hit the power line, which resulted in a sparking power line tangled on the crane.

Firefighter/paramedics eventually discovered that accident occurred on I-90 at Route 53.

An Arlington Heights fire officer first on the scene discovered about 9:42 a.m. that the accident as actually closer to Route 53 or near the Golf Road bridge.

Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics were also dispatched to the scene since the accident was discovered to be Schaumburg’s tollway jurisdiction.

At 9:52 a.m. the first Arlington Heights fire officer on the scene learned that there was an injured construction worker at the scene. There was some difficulty locating the patient. First the patient or injured construction worker was reported to be in the Walsh Construction area near eastbound I-90 east of Route 53. Then the patient was reported to have been re-located to 2100 Golf Road, but that turned out to be incorrect.

Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics were dispatched just as Rolling Meadows firefighter/paramedics were about to be dispatched to the Golf Road address.

Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics transported the patient to a local hospital about 10:00 a.m. (not confirmed).
