Fire at Asbury Court Retirement Community on Elmhurst Rd Near Oakton St and I-90, Des Plaines

Des Plaines police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:05 PM Tuesday to an activated fire alarm followed by a report of a fire on the fourth floor at Asbury Court Retirement Community, 1750 South Elmhurst Rd, Des Plaines, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a fire was burning in unit 4121. Upon receiving a telephone call from a citizen that there was a fire, the fire was upgraded to a working fire response. When firefighters discovered an active fire in the residential unit, firefighters upgraded the response to a MABAS Box Alarm.

No smoke was showing from the exterior of the building when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters extinguished the fire by about 5:25 p.m.

Eastbound Oakton Street was backed up to about Hamilton Road at 6:00 p.m.
