Beach Park Man Critically Injured After Being Struck By Zion Fire Ambulance Overnight, Early Sunday

Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded a little after 1:30 AM Sunday to a report of a pedestrian hit by a fire department ambulance in the block of 38000 Northshore Avenue.

At 1:30 am Sunday October 18th Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Sheridan Rd. and Beach Rd. in Beach Park to a reported traffic crash involving a pedestrian and a Zion Fire Department ambulance.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the northbound Zion Fire Department ambulance was returning to the station from Vista East Hospital when Andre Perez of the 38000 block of Northshore Avenue in Beach Park suddenly ran into the path of the ambulance from the west side of the roadway. The ambulance was not traveling with emergency lights or siren activated.

Paramedics on board the ambulance immediately began life saving efforts on Perez who was later transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Hospital in critical condition.

No charges have been filed at this time pending toxicology results. The investigation continues through the Lake County Sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigation Unit.
