Ben Carson: Debate audience picked up on media bias.

Wednesday night at the CNBC Republican presidential debate at the University of Colorado Boulder, questions were framed in ways that the Republican candidates were not willing to accept. In the case of Quintanilla vs Carson, Quintanilla played antagonist to set up Carson’s character, rather than ask about issues facing the country.

Moderator Carl Quintanilla asked Carson why he would serve on Costco’s board “when their views seem to run counter to your views on homosexuality?”

When moderator Carl Quintanilla questioned Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson over a company for which he gave paid speeches, the audience picked up on media bias and disapproved by loudly booing the anchor. Carson replied that just because a person is pro-marriage between a man and a woman doesn’t mean that person is a homophobe. Carson pointed out that, “we the people are not each other’s enemies. It’s those people who are trying to divide us who are the enemies.”

Quintanilla also asked a question about Carson’s “relationship” with Mannatech, “This is a company called Mannatech, a maker of nutritional supplements, with which you had a ten-year relationship. They paid $7 million to settle a deceptive marketing lawsuit in Texas, and yet your involvement continued. Why?”

Carson said, “Well, that is easy to answer, I didn’t have an involvement with them. That is total propaganda. This is what happens in our society. Total propaganda. I did a couple of speeches for them and other people. They were paid speeches. It is absolutely absurd to say I had any kind of relationship with them.”

Quintanilla pressed, “To be fair, you were on the homepage of their website with the logo over your shoulder?”

Carson said, “If somebody put me on their homepage they did it without my permission.”

When Quintanilla dragged out another accusing question the audience rejected the question. “Does that not speak to your vetting process or process in any way?,” Quintanilla asked. The audience loudly booed Quintanilla. Carson smiled, and said, “See, they know (referring to the audience).”

In a post-debate interview, Carson later said, “I think people are a little sick and tired of it (media bias). I know I am.”
