The Clark County sheriff’s office responded Wednesday afternoon to a bicycle crash on the Levis Mound bike trail in Neillsville in west-central Wisconsin.

The Clark County sheriff’s office reports the bicyclist was found unconscious and not breathing. He was airlifted by a medical helicopter to an Eau Claire hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office identified the victim as 67-year-old Christopher Hanson of Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Investigators say Hanson was riding his bicycle when he hit something on the trail, flew off his bike and landed on the ground. He was wearing a helmet, but apparently suffered severe blunt trauma when his head hit a log or other hard ground material.

The sheriff’s office reported that Hanson scheduled annual bike rides to the bike trails at the Levis Mound bike trail.
