Carly Fiorina Announces 2016 Bid to Run for President

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer reports that former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina has announced her presidential bid for the 2016 race.

Carly Fiorina became the second woman to announce her campaign for the 2016 Presidential Run. She is also the first former corporate chief executive to enter the 2016 presidential campaign. Fiorina was chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard from 1999 to 2005, which involved serving as chief executive officer during the trials of the Tech Bubble dot-com collapse of 1999-2001. She was the first woman to lead a Fortune 20 company, but was forced to resign in 2005 over differences in strategy with HP board of directors, a stock value of HP that was cut in half during her leadership, and the perceived failure of her managed merger with Compaq in 2002.

Fiorina announced on Good Morning America that she is running for President of the United States in 2016. She told host George Stephanopoulos, “I understand bureaucracies, and that’s what our federal government has become — a giant, bloated, unaccountable, corrupt bureaucracy. I understand technology, which is a tool both to re-imagine government to re-engage citizens in the process of government, and I understand executive decision-making, which is making a tough call in a tough time with high stakes for which you’re prepared to be accountable.”

Fiorina criticized candidate Hillary Clinton, saying the former secretary of state has not been transparent about issues ranging from Benghazi to foreign donations to her family’s foundation. She said Hillary Clinton “is the personification of the professional political class” while explaining her presidential campaign announcement video.
