Arlington Heights Firefighters Bring Holiday Feasts to 12 Families on Christmas Eve

Arlington Heights firefighters were caught in the act of a good deed Christmas Eve at the Jewel-Osco, 1860 South Arlington Heights Road gathering food for 12 needy families.

As in other years, each firefighter donated money out of their own pockets to fund the annual program. In a similar grateful response, families this year greeted firefighters with hugs and homemade Christmas cookies to show their great appreciation for the meals. As one resident told firefighters, “We could never have done this without you. We can’t tell you how much this means to us.”

“This is a great annual tradition,” said Deputy Chief Pete Ahlman. “It is one more way we can show we care and serve residents of Arlington Heights.”

For the past 20 years, the Arlington Heights Fire Department has delivered deluxe Christmas meals to 12 needy families. If it weren’t for the generosity of the local firefighters, these families could not have celebrated with a holiday feast.

Including the Arlington Heights firefighters’ actions, the Cardinal is honored to have documented three charitable acts by police and firefighters this season. Awareness of two of the acts were made possible by tips from Arlington Heights residents. Last Saturday we were fortunate to catch sight of the Operation Santa police escort traveling down Palatine Road, then received a tip that helped up located the Arlington Heights destination of the Operation Santa stop in their weekend-long effort. We were also fortunate to cover the Arlington Heights police officers’ Shop with a Cop event at Target this year. Then we received a tip of the firefighers’ actions when they were spotted at the Jewel-Osco on the south side of Arlington Heights.
