Arlington Heights police received a report about 4:00 PM Wednesday of a theft of a wallet at the Goodwill Store, 1551 North Dryden Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders took a victim’s black Coach bi-fold wallet, valued at $150.

The wallet contained $200 cash, various credit cards, several gift cards valued at $400, and a checkbook.

The clerk at Goodwill responded by offering to file an in-store report instead of immediately calling the police. The victim called her husband, who immediately called to shut down the credit cards that were in the wallet.

The credit cards were used to make fraudulent charges worth several thousand dollars to purchase items at another store.

About $4,000 in charges were used to successfully purchase electronics and other items at the Target Store at Rand Road and Thomas Street in Arlington Heights.

About another $50 was charged for gas at a Speedway, and at least another $3,000 in charges were used to purchase items at Walmart near Rand Road and Dundee Road in Palatine.

Video surveillance in several stores is believed to match at least two subjects wearing a hoodies and sunglasses, which make them hard to identify.

A pickpocket crew was possibly involved because of the speed of purchases made in Arlington Heights and Palatine.

The crime is reported to have occurred on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 between 3:50 p.m. and 3:55 p.m. The victim did not believe she was ever away from her purse while she was in the Goodwill store, and believes she was possibly distracted by one of the offenders while the purse was stolen.
