Ask Paul B: What’s Best? Better Shoes or Jeans, or a Better Mom?

#ad▼

Dear Paul B,

You know me, cause I write to you a lot. I am now 14, but I have grown up in the past year. I have been through a lot, but so have many other people. I read your column every week, and wish that you wrote more about kids like me. I don’t know where our Dad is, but I am hurting my Mom because he left us. My Mom works so we can have a place to stay. We used to stay with cousins, but it was cold, dirty, and my Aunt XX wasn’t nice to us. We never had enough to eat, and my cousin would hit us often. Now we are better off, and I have learned to help our family instead of being angry. I can’t blame my Mom for everything. Life is not always perfect, but my two sisters and I are lucky to have a Mom who protects us. She would take a bullet for me, and I would do the same. She cried when she read this letter to you. She knows that I am a good son, and I will always take care of her, even when she is old. Many kids at my school don’t understand that they have it so good. They may have better shoes and jeans, but I have a great Mom, and I am the luckiest kid in Arlington Heights. Thanks for reading this, Paul B.

Danny

++++++++++++++++

Dear Danny,

Who wouldn’t pray for a son like you? You are an affectionate, yet strong young man, who has accepted responsibilities beyond your years. I am proud of you for “figuring it out,” and for recognizing the true meaning of life. Your Mom’s love for you transcends the physical world. As a parent, I know how important and vital it is that our children know that we are there for them…always.. If you’re smart, you love them back with all your heart. You’re a wise one, Danny. A loving, hard working Mom is one fantastic gift from God…Give your Mom a hug for me.love…
