Lightning-Tested Electronics: Post-It Maker 3M Doesn’t Only Make Adhesive Products

#ad▼

You are surrounded by the company 3M. They make over 55,000 products that touch your life every day, usually without your knowledge. Bloomberg’s Rachel Crane goes inside one of 3M’s R&D labs to find out how the 100-year-old Post-It company is innovating by sticking to its’ roots.

Scotch Tape, Post-it notes, Hockey gear tape, Bondo, traffic signals, Scotch-Brite, Steri-Strip (AKA butterfly stitches), Tegaderm (medical dressing), Tattle-Tape (library security device in books), and Thinsulate are just a few of the well-konwn products from 3M.

After adhesives, 3M’s second industry is electronics and energy. 3M makes electronics products and tests products with its own artificial lightning generator in its lab.

3M’s philosophy for survival involves broadening their technology. They already make over 55,000 products. While some might ask 3M is they are spreading themselves too thin, 3M’s answer is that they have to broaden themselves to survive.
