ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Dec. 3, 2013) – Arlington International Racecourse officials were disappointed Thursday that Senate Bill 66 – legislation extending Advanced Deposit Wagering, which Arlington says is crucial to the survival of the Illinois Horse Racing industry – was not called during the December legislative session. SB 66 would have extended the ability of state residents to wager on horse races online via Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) through Jan. 31, 2017, provide funding to the Illinois Racing Board and allow for a full racing schedule in 2014.

The final Illinois state legislative session of the 2013 ended Thursday with no legislative action taken on various proposals to extend advance deposit wagering (ADW).

The current legislation allowing ADW is scheduled to sunset on Jan. 31, 2014 and the Legislature is not scheduled to meet again until Jan. 29, 2014.

“Arlington will continue to work with the legislative leaders for a bill that can be quickly passed and sent to the Governor when the Legislature reconvenes at the end of January”
— Arlington International General Manager Tony Petrillo.

Illinois horsemen are also pushing for a bill that would authorize slots at tracks as a way to enhance purses.
