Extra Alarm Fire in Evanston Destroys At Least Three Businesses at Davis St and Oak Ave, Evanston

Evanston police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:24 a.m. Sunday to a report of a commercial building fire on Davis Street near Oak Avenue. First firefighters on the scene reported a confirmed fire with fire showing through the roof.

Fire command at the Evanston fire reported fire through the roof of a 25 x 100 commercial building with a bow truss roof construction, and called for a box alarm at 2:30 a.m. Firefighters from Skokie, Morton Grove and Wilmette responded to the scene, while firefighters from Wilmette, Winnetka and Northfield responded to standby in Evanston fire stations.

At 2:45 a.m. firefighters upgraded the Box Alarm to the second level, which moved Winnetka and Northfield firefighters to the scene and additional Wilmette firefighters to the scene. Firefighters from Glenview, Niles and Park Ridge also responded for standby fire station coverage in Evanston in response to the Box Alarm to the second level.

The Box Alarm level fire response was struck out at 6:30 a.m. after the fire was brought under control.

One Evanston firefighter suffered an ankle injury during firefighting operations. No civilians were reported injured.

The fire destroyed at least three businesses: the Pine Yard Restaurant, Taco Diablo Restaurant and TechniColour Nail & Day Spa. An adjacent building — the home of Wheel & Sprocket Bike Shop, formerly Turin Bike “Ten27” bike shop was also affected by the fire.
