Illinois State Police and Palatine firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:34 AM Tuesday to a a rollover crash with injuries on southbound Route 53 at Euclid Avenue. A semi-trailer truck filled with garbage rolled over in the center lane of southbound Route 53 just south of the southbound entrance ramp from eastbound Euclid Avenue, and slid on its side into Lane 1 near the center concrete barrier. A red car collided withe the truck in Lane 1 of southbound Route 53.
Palatine firefighters and Illinois State police immediately closed southbound Route 53 at Euclid Avenue. The expressway was opened sometime before 1:05 p.m. Excellent work by Rolling Meadows police with traffic operations to divert southbound 53 off at Euclid Avenue westbound for detour to Kirchoff Road entrance ramp to southbound 53. Police took over traffic control from the automatic traffic signal at Hicks Road and Kirchoff Road, and at Rohlwing Road and Kirchoff Road to keep heavier southbound traffic flowing through for the southbound Route 53 detour.
