The so-called Rim Fire in Tuolumne County, California has burned 15 square miles, and is threatening 2,500 structures.

More than 400 firefighters were battled a wildfire Tuesday evening that near Yosemite National Park that was threatening 2,500 buildings and showed no signs of containment. Aircraft are also dropping water.

Communities along Feretti Road and in the Buck Meadows area were evacuated Tuesday afternoon.

State Route 120 was shut down in both directions for a 4-mile stretch, blocking traffic in and out of Yosemite on the west side. Yosemite National Park entrances and exits via State Route 140 and State Route 4 remained open.

The Rim Fire is especially hard to fight because of steep terrain and extremely dry conditions.

Firefighters continue to gain ground on the Beaver Creek fire near Sun Valley, Idaho. It’s one of 53 large wildfires currently burning, and the blazes are stretching the nation’s resources. Ben Tracy reports.
