The person that discovered the boy called 9-1-1 while a passerby started CPR. Naperville police took over CPR until the Naperville Fire Department firefighter/paramedics arrived.

The boy, Amer Kahn, was transported to Edward Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:28 p.m. Amer was the youngest of three boys where the family lived nearby in the 2900 block of Kilburne Lane.

Fire department divers searched the pond to make sure no other children drowned in the pond. Naperville firefighter divers were assisted by divers from Aurora Fire Department. Lisle Woodridge Fire Protection District firefighters provided station coverage to stand by for any other calls. The divers searched the entire pond, and completed the search about 1:30 p.m. No other persons were found in or near the pond. The pond is about two to ten feet deep.
