Prospect Heights police charged Mercury V. Carreon, 31, with forgery and unlawful use of a credit card after the owner of Sherwood Inn & Jacuzzi Suites, 1246 South Milwaukee Avenue, discovered unauthorized purchases in the amount of $2,478.48 and called police. The offender’s wife worked for the motel, and allegedly Carreon used the employer’s credit card to pay for a storage locker and make online purchases.

A Cook County judge set bail at $25,000 on Friday.

Carreon also faces domestic battery charges stemming from an incident in which his wife observed a bruise on the face of their 4-year-old son, who reported his father hit him.
