Independence Day Traffic Enforcement Activities Begin Tomorrow in Arlington Heights

#ad▼

The Arlington Heights Police Department will commence specialized traffic enforcement activities relating to the Illinois Department of Transportation’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” holiday enforcement campaign from June 28th through July 7, 2013. Enforcement activities will include extra impaired driving saturation patrols and two Roadside Safety Checkpoints. The checkpoints will take place on June 28th & 29th on Arlington Heights Road south of Algonquin Road.

Officers working the campaign will be attempting to identify and cite motorists who choose to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, without using their safety belts, and who are committing other traffic-related offenses. Enforcement efforts will focus on late-night hours, since statistics show a disproportionate number of traffic deaths occur late at night and involve impaired drivers and unbuckled motorists.

Hundreds of other law enforcement agencies throughout the state will also be participating in the statewide campaign. The campaign is funded with federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which are administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation – Division of Traffic Safety.
