Driver Crashes into Guard Rail, Flees on Foot From Route 53 Into Arlington Heights

VIDEO: Crash scene on northbound Route 53 where driver fled on foot into Arlington Heights just after 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

Arlington Heights police, Illinois State Police and Palatine Fire Department responded about 5:42 AM Sunday to a hit-and-run crash property damage only at 42.10631,-88.006242 (Route 53 NB, just south of Palatine Road, Arlington Heights, IL). Police received a report that a driver of a silver sedan hit a guard rail and spun out. The driver then fled. He walked calmly, then ran from the scene eastbound into Arlington Heights.

Arlington Heights police search the area. No description of the offending driver was available in the early dawn twilight.

Illinois State police are investigating the crash.

Palatine firefighter/paramedics searched for the driver and for clues regarding whether a medical emergency was evident.

Firefighters also cleaned up the scene — removing debris and placing a substance on automobile fluids on the pavement to reduce slickness on the roadway.
