VIDEO: Firefighting operations as firefighters arrived to fight house fire on South Hi Lusi Avenue in Mount Prospect, just south of Central Road and Northwest Highway.

Mount Prospect police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:10 AM Monday to a report of a house fire just south of Central Road and Northwest Highway at 21 South Hi Lusi Avenue, Mount Prospect, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a passerby that called 9-1-1 saw smoke coming from a house, rang the doorbell, and discovered no response from inside the house.

Mount Prospect’s fire department battalion chief arrived on the scene and reported heavy smoke coming from the house. The battalion chief ordered a working fire response (Code 4).

The house was well-involved with fire by the time firefighters arrived. About 10 minutes after arriving on the scene, firefighters had to evacuate the house and stop interior firefighting operations because of dangerous fire conditions inside the house. Several blasts of the horn from Mount Prospect Tower Ladder 13 signaled all firefighters to evacuate the house as smoke rolled out of a dormer window. Flames erupted from the north side of the house, and then flames erupted from one of the front dormers of the house. The flames at the dormer were quickly knock down by firefighters positioned in the front yard — each with a hose line. The fire was quickly stopped with exterior operations, followed by the return to interior operations.

During a search of the inside of the house, firefighters found a family dog that had succumbed to the smoke conditions inside the house on the second floor.

The fire was extinguished about 11:00 a.m.Significant damage occurred to the first floor, the second floor, and roof of the house.

No injuries to firefighters were reported as of 7:30 p.m.

Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Township assisted Mount Prospect firefighters.

Rolling Meadows and Glenview firefighters provided station coverage for the rest of Mount Prospect.
