Leader with both business and medical expertise hired after extensive search

Northwest Community Hospital (NCH) in Arlington Heights is pleased to announce that Dr. Eric Benink MD, MBA, FAAEM, will be joining as its new Chief Medical Officer (CMO) starting today.

Dr. Benink joins NCH from OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois where he has served as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer since 2006. He has over 20 years of experience as a physician, previously specializing in emergency medicine.

“Dr. Benink was the clear choice after many rounds of interviews with finalists and a national search process that considered over 30 candidates,” said Bruce Crowther, CEO of Northwest Community Hospital. “His experience in developing systems with physicians that materially improve quality will prove especially important to Northwest Community Hospital as a differentiator. We are delighted that he has agreed to join our leadership team.”

Prior to serving as CMO of OSF Saint Anthony, he served as the hospital’s medical director of emergency medicine and the medical director of the hospital’s lifeline trauma helicopter, the state’s oldest med-evac program with nearly 25 years of service. Dr. Benink served as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force during the first Gulf War.

Level I Trauma Center OSF Saint Anthony serves more than 20 hospitals in northern Illinois stretching from the suburbs of Chicago to the Mississippi River, and southern Wisconsin. Lifeline Helicopter service made a record 674 transports during 2004.

OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center is the first medical center in Rockford, the fourth in Illinois and the 90th in the nation to achieve accreditation as a Chest Pain Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers.

Dr. Benink received his MBA from George Washington University in 2008. He received his BA from Southern Illinois University in 1982 and his MD from Rush Medical College in 1987. He plans to reside in Algonquin with his family.

“I look forward to joining the distinguished team of physicians at NCH,” said Dr. Benink. “I hope to continue to grow NCH’s reputation as an award-winning hospital and world-class medical provider.”
