A small plane clipped the roof of an SUV while landing at Northwest Regional Airport last Saturday. The driver of the SUV was apparently supposed to stop on Kelly Drive and check for airplanes landing, and yield to any landing aircraft. Apparently, the word “STOP” is painted on the road, but there is no stop sign, and no sign to alert driver’s to yield for aircraft. Perhaps a sign should say “yield to landing aircraft”, or even better, the road should be closed. Apparently, no serious injuries occurred.
The private road is not owned by the airport. Northwest Regional Airport is a privately owned, but available for public use. The airport is located three miles northwest of Roanoke, Texas.

Why not have a traffic light 50 feet before the stop warning? I saw a video on the History channel in a small mountain terrain village where the airstrip was the street pavement. With technology today the signal can be activated by incoming planes,.Red light. Green…safe to go.
