Drew Peterson Found Guilty of Murder of His Third Wife Kathy Savio in Joliet

The Drew Peterson was a case based mainly on second-hand hearsay evidence — but that didn’t keep a jury in Illinois today from convicting Drew Peterson of murder in the death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

Drew Peterson has been found guilty of murder for the 2004 murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio after only two days of deliberations. Will County jury that recently asked the judge to define ‘unanimous,’ ruled Thursday afternoon that Drew Peterson is guilty. There was an audible gasp in the Will County courtroom when the verdict was announced about 2:45 p.m., but Drew Peterson showed no emotion when the verdict was read.

Seven men and five women of the jury reached the verdict after 13 hours and 52 minutes of deliberations.

The defense argued that no physical evidence existed for the case. The former Bolingbrook Police Department sergeant and attorneys is likely to appeal.

Three weeks ago, lawyers for Drew Peterson have withdrawn a motion for a mistrial, allowing the former Illinois police officer’s murder trial to go ahead.
