Buffalo Grove police responded about 2:14 PM Thursday to a report of a theft at Xtreme Trampolines, 950 East Busch Parkway. Police learned at the business that security video allegedly showed a male teen taking the iPhone while he was with two other people. Someone logged into Apple’s Find My iPhone tracking app or web log-in and located the phone in a parking lot just north of the Country Buffet in Arlington Heights.

About 3:04 p.m. Arlington Heights police were requested to assist Buffalo Grove police by looking for suspects involved in the theft of the Apple iPhone, which was still being plotted by Apple’s iCloud Find My iPhone service. The service plotted the missing iPhone about half the distance north into the parking lot in front of the Country Buffet restaurant at Town and Country Shopping Center in Arlington Heights. Based on security video at Xtreme Trampolines, police were instructed to look for a female/black adult with long hair, wearing a white tank top, blue jeans, and carrying a large pink purse; a male/black, age 14-years-old, wearing a gray T-shirt with graphics, and long dark shorts; and a male/black, 8-years-old, wearing a blue-and-white stripe shirt.

At about 3:09 p.m. an alert Arlington Heights police officer found the subjects in a parked car and detained them while a Buffalo Grove police officer responded to the Town & Country shopping center scene in the parking lot.

The phone was described as a white Apple iPhone 4s with a brown and white case. The phone was found in possession of the 14-year-old male. He said he had no idea how the iPhone got in his pants. Without the security video at Xtreme Trampolines it would have been more difficult for police to discover the 14-year-old that allegedly took the Apple iPhone. The male juvenile was arrested and transported in custody to Buffalo Grove Police Department Headquarters.
