UP 1995 leads the way through South Elgin, enroute to Belvidere, Illinois and return.

Kids and train buffs: A “Touch a Train” event is scheduled for July 7-8, Noon to 6 p.m. on the northeast corner of Kensington and Douglas; directly adjacent to the Frontier Days celebration in Recreation Park.

A 1995 Union Pacific locomotive will be on display in recognition of the Village’s 125th anniversary and its Trains on the Track public art display program.

A UP 1995 locomotive will be on site for viewing. Union Pacific 1995 is an EMD SD70ACe diesel-electric locomotive owned by the Union Pacific Railroad (UP). UP 1995 is the fifth locomotive in the railroad’s “Heritage Series” of SD70ACe locomotives painted as tributes to UP predecessor railroads. 1995 is painted in honor of Chicago and North Western Railway, which became a part of UP in 1995.

The locomotive is rated at 4,300 horsepower.
