Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s police responded about 6:24 p.m. Wednesday to Rollins Road and Lotus Drive for an 11-year-old bicyclist that was hit by a pickup truck. Jose Antonio Zamudio was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Jose Zntonio Zamudio was crossing Rollins Road southbound on his bicycle near the intersection with Lotus Drive when he was hit by a westbound pickup truck. He suffered major head trauma and was not wearing a bicycle helmet.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is investigating the crash.
Zamudio just finished seventh grade at Round Lake Middle School.
