Police at domestic disturbance with a report of a gun at the scene on the east side of Arlington Heights Road, just South of St. James.
Arlington Heights police responded about 1:09 p.m. Thursday to a report of a man with a gun in a domestic situation at a residence in the 700 block of North Arlington Heights. Police received a report from the wife in a husband-wife domestic that the husband had a gun, and was loading the gun. The nature of the threat was not available. 9-1-1 operators advised the woman to leave the house and walk toward Hawthorne Street, which is away from the direction of St. James School and St. James Church.
Police arrived in about two minutes and the suspect was in custody within about four minutes of the call for help. Authorities were preparing for the possibility of a lockdown at St. James School, but since the man was immediately in custody, no lockdown was necessary.
St. James school officials were immediately notified to bring indoors any students that were outside. Two St. James PE classes were outside at the time, and were immediately and calmly brought inside. Within minutes police called St. James school officials again and declared the situation was secure.
Police called paramedics to the scene; no word on whether the man was transported to Northwest Community Hospital. Also, no confirmation on whether a gun was actually at the house.
Several police units blocked the curb lane of northbound Arlington Heights Road during the incident — causing a light backup.
