Jose Rodriguez Dies at Heritage Park, Wheeling, After He Was Hit in the Chest by Softball

Wheeling police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:25 p.m. Saturday to a report of a man down on baseball diamond #2 at Heritage Park, 222 South Wolf Road. Paramedics responding to the scene were informed that bystanders were performing CPR for the victim, who originally had a seizure.

Jose Rodriguez, 59, was struck in the chest by a softball at 222 S. Wolf Rd. in Wheeling, officials said. Jose Rodriguez was transported to Glenbrook Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:04 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

An autopsy was scheduled on Sunday.
