CANCELED … Heat Advisory Still On, But High Heat Is Not Expected According to Cardinal Forecast — High 90°F

#ad▼

UPDATE: The heat advisory for Cook County and other surrounding counties was canceled this afternoon …

The Cardinal forecast for Friday, July 1, 2011 is a high of 90°F. Be prepared for heat conditions, as a National Weather Service Heat Advisory still exists, but heavy cloud cover and an east wind is delaying the heat load on our area for July 1, 2011. Professional forecasters are not real confident in the models that the high 90’s will be reached.

The visible satellite image shows almost complete cloud cover over the northern third of Illinois. If anything, the clouds are actually building as of 10:30 a.m. Heavy thunderstorms exist on the east side of Lake Michigan. The dew point was 62°F at 9:52 a.m.

If cloud cover continues and does not burn off, even the upper 80’s might be a stretch. Clouds might clear between noon and 1:00 p.m., but if they don’t clear, the northwest suburbs of Chicago will not see any 90-degree temperatures. If and when the clearing occurs, the area will see a quick heat and humidity increase, but it’s doubtful the forecast high of 97°F will be reached.

Keeping an eye on temperatures, especially west of Chicago at about 11:00 a.m. July 1, 2011 …
Chicago Executive Airport, Wheeling 74°F
DeKalb 79°F
Rockford 79°F decrease from 10:00 a.m.
Peoria 84°F
Waukegan 71°F

Des Moines, Iowa 89°F
La Crosse, Wisconsin 90°F
St. Louis, Missouri 88°F

Yesterday’s GFS model predicted a high of 90°F for Arlington Heights, Illinois.
