Reported ‘Fireball’ Shot Out of Manhole Near Higgins Rd and Lively Blvd with Power Outage

Elk Grove Village responded about 9:30 a.m. Friday to a report of an explosion that caused a ‘fireball’ to shoot out from a manhole near Higgins Road and Lively Boulevard. Smoke was reported rising out of the manhole after the explosion. Firefighters on the scene reporting high gas levels. Both Nicor and Com Ed were called to the scene. Com Ed was on the scene within minutes.

A power outage was reported, but was restored about 9:45 a.m. Friday.
