Fire at PetSmart on West Rand Road

Arlington Heights police responded just before 5:30 a.m Tuesday to a burglar alarm at PetSmart, 49 West Rand Road. When police arrived, they discovered a pallet skid on fire inside the store. Police put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, and firefighters were called in to confirm that the fire was extinguished and to ventilate the building.

The fire alarm was not operating or was not in service at the time of the fire. Firefighters were attempting to contact management for the store Tuesday morning. A fire investigator was called to the scene.

No word on any animals being injured, but there was significant smoke inside the store just after the fire.
