Video Shows Delta Air Lines MD-88 Jet Fire and Smoke from Landing Gear with Passenger Evacuation

The landing gear of a Delta Air Lines jet apparently caught fire during a rough landing Saturday afternoon at Atlanta’s main airport, but the flight’s approximately 50 passengers and crew were evacuated safely.

Video shows heavy smoke from rear of a Delta MD-88. Delta flight 2284 from Pittsburgh to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport at around 4:18 p.m. Saturday. The fire and smoke are quickly knocked down by two airport fire department crash trucks. A third truck also responded.

The MD-88 jet fire was caused by a either a blown tire, a locked-up brake or both. The FAA is investigating the incident.
