City of Good Neighbors lived up to its name as several neighbors and passers by came to the aid of a teen cyclist hit by a vehicle during a thunderstorm in the eastbound lane of Oakton Street, just east of Chestnut Avenue.

Arlington Heights police and firefighters/paramedics responded about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a female teen bicyclist hit by a vehicle. The teen was lying in the roadway and curb on Oakton Street at the southeast corner with Chestnut Avenue. Several neighbors came to the aid of injured cyclist — many carrying umbrellas to protect the victim, firefighter/paramedics and police from heavy rain.

The girl was rescued from the street in the rain, immobilized and transported to Northwest Community Hospital.
