WARNING … some graphic language at the scene …
“Is this Summerset apartments? Yes. They’re completely gone. I know.”
Homes, apartments, a fitness center, gas station, tanning salon, DVD rental … everything is gone. All of it. Nothin’.
The Weather Channel’s Mike Bettes and The Great Tornado Hunt crew were one of the first to arrive on the scene after Joplin, Missouri was struck by a violent and large tornado about 6:00 p.m. May 22, 2011.
Not clearly seen in the video are the blue tarps that were covering the dead that had already been recovered at some of the larger locations where people had gathered. A few fires are also visible.
