Los Angeles Food Vendor Trucks Squeezed by Higher Gas Prices, Higher Food Prices

Whether it’s shrimp po’boys or carnitas tacos, making a living serving food on wheels is harder these days. With both gas prices and food prices up, LA’s trendy food vendor trucks are getting hit with a double whammy.

When gas goes from $2/gallon to $5/gallon, Shrimp Po Boys go from $8 a sandwich to $10 a sandwich, and bowls of Jambalaya have jumped from $6 to $8 at the Ragin’ Cajun Cafe on Wheels.

A po’ boy (also po-boy, po boy, or poor boy) is a traditional submarine sandwich from Louisiana. Po’ boys almost always consists of meat, usually roast, or seafood, usually fried, served on baguette-like Louisiana French bread.
