Naperville police responded about 1:00 a.m. Tuesday to the 1100 block of West Ogden Avenue to a call from William C. Ladew of Aurora that he was intending to kill himself.

After a woman friend of Ladew’s let two police officers into her apartment, police encountered Ladew in a back bedroom. Ladew had a large knife and was shot and killed by police after he charged at them with the knife at close proximity.

An investigator from the state’s attorneys’ office is investigating the incident.
